Den
The fourth king of the 1st Dynasty (date of reign unknown), listed as ruling approximately half a century, probably the son of Wadi. Den was considered energetic and a patron of the arts. Legends about him state that certain mortuary spells were found during his reign. He figured in the Ebers Papyrus and in the Berlin Medical Papyrus and was believed to have been medically trained. Den was active militarily in the Sinai, where the Egyptians were interested in the natural resources. He was buried at Saqqara and built another mortuary complex at Abydos. His name is associated with Queen Merenith, who possibly served as regent during his infancy.
