Hotepsekhemwy
The first king of the 2nd Dynasty (2770-? B.C.). Hisname meant "The Two Mighty Ones Are at Rest", in reference to the gods Horus and Seth. He is believed to have ruled for more than 35 years and was on Egypt's throne when an earthquak struck in the vicinity of Bubastis in the Delta. It is possible that he was overthrown by his successor Raneb.
